Soon the Outback Heritage Experience will move into its new premises at the Broken Hill Royal Flying Doctor Service Base. While we get everything ready to welcome our guests, we will be temporarily closed from 28 September 2024 through to November. Unfortunately, we do not have an exact date, but keep checking back for updates.
What can you expect when we reopen?
The Broken Hill Base was established 90 years ago. It is one of the Flying Doctor’s oldest bases, and remains one of its busiest – from emergency retrievals and remote clinics, through to the Royal visit where we received our Royal prefix, there are more stories to tell than we have space to share them.
From Broken Hill the Flying Doctor travels as far north as Hungerford on the Queensland border, and as far south as Balranald near the Victorian border to deliver primary health care services. This is in addition to the lifesaving retrievals and inter-hospital patient transfers we perform every day.
The new Outback Heritage Visitor Experience will be a fitting showcase of how deeply interwoven the Flying Doctor is with this part of the world. We have worked with local communities to collect stories and are developing interactive displays to sit alongside our collection of heritage aircraft and historical items curated over the years.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
